The biggest yearly activity of the Tulsa
Master Gardeners is The Greater Tulsa Home and Garden Show.
Erecting one of the largest booths at this major trade show,
the Tulsa Master Gardeners anchor the lower level of the
Tulsa Exposition Center. The 25,000 square foot booth
features a spectacular display of plant materials from the
major nurseries in the Tulsa area, as well as areas devoted
to all the activities of the Tulsa Master Gardeners.
The booth's central location on the lower level and The OSU flag at its pinnacle, make it a landmark for visitors and a rallying point to meet friends.
With approximately 20 Master Gardeners
on duty, the public is given a convenient opportunity to
utilize the resources of The OSU Cooperative Extension
Service. Taking full advantage of this opportunity, visitors
log over a thousand inquiries during the 4 day run of the
show. Questions range from "how much fertilizer to use on
fescue lawns" to "what should I do about my pine tree that's
turned completely brown"?
The Master Gardeners invest over 400 manhours to build the booth for the 4 day run of the Home & Garden Show. Planning it, is a year-round job, with the next year's committee chairman, selected before the current show is staged.
It takes an
entire committee to just handle the logistics of feeding the
Master Gardeners who are building the booth.
