Geum spp.
The Geum plant is a sunny perennial and one of the best plants for a sunny border. It is bright and showy with cup shaped flowers that bloom from late May to July. There are over 50 species of Geum, an herbaceous perennial that is native to several places in the world including North America. They have attractive dark green leaves and small bright flowers. They are a host plant to some larval moths and butterflies and also attract bees. Geum needs good soil drainage and full sun to partial shade. It is hardy in Oklahoma zone 7a and b. Geum looks beautiful as a border or mass planting or in small groups. Although this lovely plant is short -lived, it is low maintenance and a perfect plant for small spaces.
