Celeste Fig

Celeste Fig
Ficus carica 'Celeste'
The Celeste fig is a vigorous, cold -hearty plant that is self-pollinating and heart tolerant as well as pest and disease resistant. Trees can get 6-10 feet high and wide and set fruit from mid-summer through fall. Fruits are tear-drop shaped and can be purplish-bronze to light brown with sweet pink flesh. Having success with a celeste fig requires rich, well-drained soil with a neutral pH (6.0-8.0) and full sun. Winter protection may be needed during the coldest days although this particular tree was planted summer 2024 and overwintered without protection. It broke dormancy in the spring and put on new growth indicating that it did indeed survive our cold 2024/2025 winter. When working with the Celeste fig, sensitive individuals should take precautions to prevent skin contact with the milky sap and those with cats, dogs, and or/horses may want to evaluate the toxicity of Celeste figs to those animals. Use caution when working with Celeste Fig or selecting it for your garden or landscape.
