Wooly Morning Glory

Wooly Morning Glory, Elephant Creeper

Argyeia nervosa

Wooly Morning Glory calls to mind “Jack and the Beanstalk” as it vines to heights of up to 10-12 feet with huge, heart shaped leaves that are nearly a foot wide. It is a stand out plant in any Oklahoma garden and can definitely be seen on a trellis or pergola which it must have for support. The Wooly Morning Glory flowers in late summer and fall with clusters of pale pink, purple flowers blooming at the top of the vine. It is fast growing in full sun to partial shade and prefers acidic loam soil. We have had huge success with this plant here in the Demonstration Garden with our Oklahoma clay soil. This plant does not need pruning and has woody textured vines instead of tendrils. It can be propagated by seeds or cuttings. This plant is always a conversation starter in your garden.
